By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

Azerbaijan plans to attract countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) to the TASIM (Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway) project, the ministry of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan told Trend.

Azerbaijan will chair the committee BSEC on science and technology in 2014-2016, said the ministry.

TASIM will be introduced within the framework of the BSEC, proposals that reflect the interests of some countries will be prepared, according to the ministry. The main purpose is to disseminate information about the project and the benefits it can give to the participants.

"As you know, five countries have already given their consent, which is sufficient for the project to be implemented," said the foreign ministry. "Regarding increase of the number of participants of the project, it is quite possible. Today, there are already countries interested in this project."

Regarding the construction of an underwater segment of TASIM pipeline, this issue is still under discussion, which is mostly of a technical nature, said the ministry.

TASIM project has regional significance, and its purpose is the laying of transnational fiber optic highway covering the Eurasian countries from Western Europe to East Asia.

The project aims at reducing poverty and accelerating the economic growth. It can also play a leading role in the region's development.

The TASIM project is designed to connect 20 countries, and its realization will help to address the information gap between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
