Uzbekistan to increase minimum prices for alcohol products

Starting from January 1, 2015 Uzbekistan will increase the minimum wholesale and retail price of alcoholic beverages (except beer)

Starting from January 1, 2015 Uzbekistan will increase the minimum wholesale and retail price of alcoholic beverages (except beer), said a joint decree of the Ministry of Finance and the State Committee on Taxes Uzbekistan.

In accordance with the decree, the minimum wholesale price for cognac for the producers increases by 18.1 percent - up to 11,100 UZS per liter, retail - by 17.5 percent (to 13,400 UZS per liter).

The minimum wholesale price for vodka and other alcoholic beverages will increase by 15.4 percent - up to 9,000 UZS, the retail price - by 14.7 percent (up to 10,900 UZS per liter).

The minimum wholesale price for wine will be increased by 15.2 percent - up to 3,800 UZS, retail price - to 4,600 UZS per liter.

For the first time, minimum prices for alcoholic beverages (except beer) were introduced in Uzbekistan starting from January 1, 2010. Minimum prices for alcohol products are set in order to prevent illegal production and sale of alcoholic beverages. The sale of alcoholic products by the manufacturers and retailers at prices below the established ones is subject to penalty sanctions, and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Last time, minimum prices for alcohol products were increased in Uzbekistan was January 1, 2014. At that time prices for all kinds of alcoholic beverages, except beer, were increased from 20 to 50 percent.

It was earlier reported that starting from Jan. 1, 2015, Uzbekistan is going to increase the rate of excise duty on alcoholic beverages, pure alcohol (spirit) and beer manufactured in the country.

The excise duty on ethyl alcohol will rise by 15 percent up to 4,183 UZS per one decaliter (one decaliter is equal to 10 liters), cognac, vodka and other strong alcoholic beverages - by 15 percent up to 37,605 UZS per one decaliter of the finished product.

The excise duty on natural wines will increase by 5 percent up to 5,767 UZS, on fortified wines - by 10 percent up to 7,246 UZS, on beer - by 15 percent up to 4,106 UZS per decaliter of the finished product.

According to the official stats, in 2013 Uzbekistan increased the vodka and liquors production by 5.8 percent (up to 13.402 million decaliters), cognac - by 11.4 percent (up to 106,800 decaliters), beer - by 4.9 percent (up to 19.224 million decaliters).

According to official statistics, in 2013, Uzbekistan increased production of vodka and liquors by 7.3 percent - up to 12.534 million decaliters, cognac - by 11.4 percent (to 106.800 decaliters), wine - by 10.5 percent (up to 2.342 million decaliters), champagne - by 5.7 percent (to 127.500 decaliters).

However, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan didn't reveal the data on the production of this product in 2014.
