Azerbaijan and Poland will sign an intergovernmental agreement on maritime transport in the first half of 2015, the text of the protocol signed in Baku following the sixth meeting of the Azerbaijani-Polish intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation says.

"The sides stressed the need to accelerate signing of an agreement on maritime transport between Poland and Azerbaijan and agreed the terms of its signing, namely, in Warsaw in the first half of 2015," the document says.

As for the opening of a Warsaw-Baku direct flight, the document says that direct flights are not planned to be made on the specified route in 2015 as part of the modernization of Polish Airlines LOT. But this issue will be considered in the future.

The protocol reflects the desire of the Polish side to take part in the implementation of infrastructure projects (construction of railways, highways) in Azerbaijan.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Poland amounted to nearly 72.4 million AZN for 11 months of 2014, according to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee. Around $56.95 million accounted for the share of import from Poland, while $15.48 million for export. The trade turnover between the two countries increased by more than 48 percent for 11 months compared to the same period of last year.
