The third phase of Abadan refinery will officially come on stream in the next two months.

Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) Abbas Kazemi said that final preparation is currently underway, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported on Dec. 21.

"Once the third phase of the refinery comes on stream, the country will start distributing Euro-4 gasoline in Ahvaz," he said.

Shahrokh Khosravani, deputy director of NIORDC, also said on Nov. 30 that the refinery's produced gasoline will be distributed in Shiraz city, as well.

"We plan to distribute only Euro-4 gasoline in Ahvaz," he said, noting that the city will be the seventh major city undergoing the program.

The official went on to note that Iran's total gasoline output is around 62 million liters, out of which 18 million liters are Euro-4.

The Former Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Mostafa Kashkouli had previously estimated that Iran's gasoline consumption will reach 74 million liters per day in the current year.

The country's gasoline output is currently around 60 million liters, so it needs to import the rest volume.

The country only imports gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard as importing Euro-2 gasoline has been banned.
