Kazakh National Maritime Shipping Company Kazmortransflot (KMTF) intends to implement the construction of two new ferries, the press service of KMTF said Dec.22.

"A new draft for the construction of high-speed ferries, with a capacity of 58 rail cars, which is a record number for ferry vessels operating on the Caspian Sea, has been prepared," said the press service of the company.

The press release said that the use of liquefied natural gas instead of traditional diesel and fuel oil is provided as fuel for the ferry, which will have a positive impact on the environment of the Caspian Sea.

"For this purpose, a short list from among the leading shipbuilding enterprises in Russia and abroad have already been made," said the press release.

The purpose of KMTF is to build a modern competitive ferry fleet, which provides high-speed transportation of transit and domestic goods at a higher level in a shorter time with the use of advanced environmental technology solutions in the field of the merchant fleet.

KMTF started its activity in 2001 as a domestic maritime carrier of all kinds of goods, gradually increasing its presence on the sea transportation market, primarily due to the construction of its own new merchant ships.

The company has designed and built a new class of tankers with the capacity of 12,000 metric tons especially for the transportation of Kazakh oil between the ports of the Caspian Sea taking into account the existing depth in the port areas of the Caspian countries.
