Premium Euro-95 and Super Euro-98 brand gasoline, which are imported in Azerbaijan, meet Euro-4 and Euro-5 environmental standards, the chairman of the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents Ramiz Hasanov told reporters Dec.24.

In order to reduce emissions of harmful substances by cars and improve the environmental situation in the country, Euro-4environmental standard will be applied to cars imported and manufactured in Azerbaijan starting from April 2014, in accordance with the decision of the cabinet of ministers of Azerbaijan.

Hasanov said that the use of Euro-4 began in the country on behalf of instruction of the head of state.

"On the basis of this decision, the production of gasoline in the country that does not meet the Euro-4 standard was stopped, and now Euro-95 and Super Euro-98 Premium gasoline, which comply with Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards, are imported in Azerbaijan," Hasanov said.

As the head of the State Committee Ramiz Hasanov said earlier, the decision on applying the Euro-4 ecological standard is related to the growth of car imports to the country which negatively affects the environment and public health.

The committee head said that around 100,000 cars were imported into the country, over 50,000 of which were used cars. These figures were equal to 64,000 and 27,000 respectively in 2011.

With the use of Euro-4 standard, import of vehicles into the country reduced.

Azerbaijan imported 56,804 vehicles in January-November compared 93,686 vehicles in the same period in 2013, according to the statistics report of the State Customs Committee.

Some 51,589 cars out of the total volume of imported vehicles were cars and motor vehicles used for transportation, the report said. In January-November 2013, the figure was 85,174 cars.

In total, some 104,385 cars were imported in Azerbaijan in 2013, compared to 101,255 in 2012.

Some 94,879 cars out of the total imported vehicles accounted for cars and motor vehicles provided for transport compared to 89,652 cars in 2012.
