The largest bank of Turkey will be created in the country, said the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, TV channel Kanal7 reported Jan.12.
He said that the share capital of the new bank will be $10 billion.
The new bank will become the largest in Turkey, and its subsidiaries will be created in a number of countries, he said.
In this case, Erdogan didn't mention the name of the new bank, the creation of which is planned for 2015.
Turkish banking sector is one of the leading sectors of the economy of the country. There are 49 banks operating in Turkey.
Some 36 banks are commercial and 13 are investment ones of the total number of banks.
In Turkey, there are 3 public, 12 private banks (with 100 percent of Turkish capital), as well as 16 banks established with foreign capital.
In 2014, some 789 branches of local banks were opened in the country, according to the Banking Association of Turkey.
