Georgia's foreign trade turnover increases by 5% in 2014

Georgia's foreign trade turnover (excluding non-organized trade) amounted to $11.457 billion in 2014 or by 5 percent more compared to 2013, the Georgian Statistics Committee said.

The exports totaled $ 2.861 billion (two percent decline), while imports - $8.596 billion (7 percent growth) during this period.

The negative balance of trade amounted to $5.735 billion or 50 percent of the total foreign trade turnover.

Thus, Georgia's trade turnover with the EU countries increased by 4 percent and amounted to $2.990 billion in 2014 compared to 2013.

The exports amounted to $621 million (2 percent more), import - $2.369 billion (4 percent more).

The EU countries' share in Georgia's foreign trade turnover for the period was 26 percent, including exports - 22 percent, while imports - 28 percent (the corresponding figures for 2013 - 26, 21 and 28 percent).

Around 20 percent of the trade deficit accounted for the EU countries compared to 32 percent in 2013.

Georgia's trade turnover with the CIS countries decreased by 5 percent and amounted to $3.593 billion in 2014.

The exports amounted to $1.465 billion (10 percent less), import - $2.127 billion (2 percent less).

The CIS countries' share in Georgia's foreign trade turnover amounted to 31 percent. The share of exports is 51 percent, imports - 25 percent (the corresponding figures for 2013 - 35, 56 and 27 percent).

Around 12 percent of the trade deficit accounted for the CIS countries in 2014 compared to 11 percent in 2013.
