A test train official launching ceremony will be held January 28 as part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway construction project on the territory of Georgia - Kartsakhi- Akhalkalaki (the Georgian-Turkish border).

Georgian Minister of Economy Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov will attend the official ceremony, the Georgian Ministry of Economy told Trend Jan. 28

The commissioning of the railway is planned in late 2015.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish inter-state agreement.

Azerbaijan has allocated a loan worth $ 775 million for construction of the Georgian section. SOFAZ finances the project in accordance with the decree of the President of Azerbaijan 'On the implementation of the activities of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project' dated February 21, 2007.

Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India show interest in this project.

Peak capacity of the corridor will be 17 million tons of cargo. This figure will be at the level of one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo at the initial stage.

Azerbaijan's Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said that after the three years of operation of BTK, the volume of cargo transportation via this railway is expected to hit three million metric tons, after five years - five million metric tons and more but after ten years of operation, this figure is forecast to exceed 10 million metric tons.
