By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend:

Iran created a working group to examine the possibility for the country to take part in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Iran's Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mojtaba Damirchiloo said Feb. 9 in an interview with Trend.

He said Iran has established good relations with all the countries participating in the EEU, but the cooperation as part of that economic union requires additional agreements.

"A working group aimed at studying all the procedures of Iran's participation in the Eurasian Economic Union has already been created in Tehran," said Damirchiloo.

He added that this working group will also be engaged in holding consultations with all the participating countries on the future format of Iran's participation in this union.

He said Iran is interested in the further development of bilateral relations with each member state of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The diplomat said that special attention will be paid to this issue during the upcoming official visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Tehran in H1 of 2015.

"Fortunately, the presidents of our two countries have established good relations and they intend to develop them further," the ambassador said. "A number of documents are planned to be signed in the economic sphere as part of the Kazakh president's official visit as there is great unused potential for cooperation."

The diplomat said that the matter rests in establishing of the cooperation in such areas as mining metallurgy, agriculture, pharmaceutics, health care and tourism.

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Iran amounted to $ 510 million in the first half of 2014.

"This is two times more than the same period of 2013, when the turnover was only $270 million," said Damirchiloo. "Now it is necessary to wait for the results of 2014 in order to understand the dynamics of our cooperation."

Treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union was signed on May 29, 2014 on the basis of the Customs Union. It entered into force on January 1, 2015. The EAU includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Armenia. In the future, Kyrgyzstan plans to join the union.

Earlier, Iran's ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanai said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Iran expects to sign a contract or a memorandum of understanding with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) in 2015 and intends to use this opportunity for its exports to Russia.
