Trend:

Tajikistan is interested in Azerbaijani investments.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Nematullo Hikmatullozoda and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov discussed drawing of Azerbaijani investments in Tajikistan's economy and the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries are interested in establishing joint ventures in the field of processing of agricultural products, and resumption of Baku-Dushanbe direct flights, the Azerbaijani embassy in Tajikistan told Trend Feb.13.

The sides also discussed the issue of holding another meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade-economic cooperation, co-chaired by Nematullo Hikmatullozoda from the Tajik side.

The ambassador informed the minister about the favorable business climate in Azerbaijan.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $2.824 million in 2014.

The bulk of the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan accounted for the products of Talco state unitary enterprise, transported through Azerbaijan to the European countries by ships and trains. Tajikistan buys alumina, coke and other raw materials from Azerbaijan.

An Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation has been operating since 2008. It coordinates the economic relations and works out the proposals for further cooperation.
