An Uzbek delegation took part in the first meeting of the Coordinating Council as part of implementing an agreement on the establishment of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman international transport and transit corridor ("Ashgabat Agreement"), the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan told Trend.

A meeting was held in Tehran on February 15-16. Minister of Foreign Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev, Iran's Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Davood Keshavarzian, First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Sultanate of Oman Saeed bin Hamdoun, Minister of Railways of Turkmenistan Bayram Annameredov attended the meeting.

The head of "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" ("Railway of Kazakhstan") Askar Mamin and the representative of the International Road Association Dalida Matic also attended the meeting.

The regulations of the Coordination Council and working bodies, as well as the issues of creating the favorable conditions were considered in accordance with the agenda to enhance the attractiveness of the route and to increase the volume of transit cargo transportation.

A memorandum was signed following the meeting. It envisages the adoption of a number of priority measures to implement the agreement, including the establishment and launching of the working bodies' activity, working out of concrete proposals to create favorable conditions for the transit of foreign goods and efficient loading of the transport corridor.

During the visit to Iran, the Uzbek delegation held meetings with the Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh and Roads and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic sphere, transport and transit and the issues related to the next meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation.
