Azerbaijan's mobile communication operator, Azercell Telecom, in 2014 invested 57 million manats in the development of the country's telecom sector, as compared to 84.5 million manats in 2013, the Azercell acting president, Vahid Mursaliyev, said Feb. 18.

He made the remarks at a press conference dedicated to Azercell's activity in 2014.

Mursaliyev said the company's total investments in Azerbaijan's economy throughout 18 years of activity in the country stood at 1.67 billion manats.

Azercell transferred in 2014 some 112 million manats to Azerbaijan's state budget in the form of taxes. Over the entire period of activity in Azerbaijan, the company's tax deductions totalled 1.11 billion manats.

Las year, Azercell Telecom installed 169 new base stations providing high-quality voice and Internet connection throughout the country. There were a total of 4,690 base stations of the company in Azerbaijan by late 2014.

Azercell's 3G network covers 48 percent of Azerbaijan's population and 92 percent of Baku.

Azercell Telecom was founded in 1996. The company owns 51.3 percent of the mobile market in Azerbaijan. Azercell's network covers 99.8 percent of the population.

The company has over 4.5 million subscribers.
