Georgia intends to attract more tourists in 2015

Georgia intends to attract more tourists in 2015, than it was in previous years, the Public Relations Department of Georgian National Tourism Administration told Trend.

Georgian Tourism Administration said the country will host three large-scale events in 2015: the European Youth Olympic Festival, the UEFA Super Cup and the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

It is expected that these events will allow to attract many visitors to Georgia. In particular, over 10,000 guests and more than 11,000 football fans from Europe are expected to visit the European Youth Olympic Festival and the UEFA Super Cup, respectively.

The total number of foreign tourists visiting Georgia in 2014 increased by 2 percent compared to 2013 and exceeded 5.493 million people.

In general, the number of visitors to Georgia from the EU countries is increasing (231,402 people in 2014, or 10.8 percent more than in 2013), according to Georgian National Tourism Administration. Most travelers came to Georgia from Poland (46,024 tourists), Germany (33,315) and Greece (21,408) in 2014.
