The volume of bilateral trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Turkey in 2014 increased by 26.6 percent and exceeded $6 billion, Turkmenistan media reported March 4.

Turkey ranked second in the total trade turnover of Turkmenistan, according to the results of 2015.

"The close and active, gaining momentum from year to year, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries is evidenced by the fact that today, various productive sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan employ about 600 Turkish companies and businesses," said the article of the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan, dedicated to the two-day visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov to Turkey March 3-4.

The article said that the president of Turkmenistan in Ankara noted the significant contribution of the Turkish partners in the formation of the textile industry of the country.

"The Turkmen leader also said with satisfaction that one can give many specific examples of mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy, construction, transport, processing industries, the food industry and other spheres," the article of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) said.

The news agency said that Turkish companies have been entrusted with large projects such as the construction of the international sea port in the city of Turkmenbashi and the international airport in the capital Ashgabat, as well as autobahns, road junctions and overpasses.

Moreover, Turkish companies actively participate in the construction of chemical industry facilities in Turkmenistan.

The two sides have fruitful cooperation in the sphere of electricity where Turkish companies are implementing the project for modernization of Ashgabat's power supply system, and construct large power plants in Lebap and Mary provinces of the country, according to media outlets.

Moreover, Turkish companies participated in the implementation of many projects in agricultural production and food industry of Turkmenistan.

During the mentioned talks, the sides also exchanged views on expanding the partnership in trade, transport and communications and energy spheres at bilateral and regional spheres, Turkmenistan's Watan newspaper reported.
