Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appreciates the traditionally friendly, good-neighborly Turkmen-Iranian relations, the Turkmen government said March 9.

"President Berdimuhamedov stressed the dynamic bilateral cooperation at all key areas, including the economic sphere," the president's statement says. "A number of major joint projects implemented in various industries testify to this."

The preparation for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's state visit to Turkmenistan, scheduled for March 10-11 was discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

A package of bilateral documents is planned to be signed at the highest level following the Turkmen-Iranian talks.

The annual volume of Turkmenistan-Iran bilateral trade hits $5 billion and it can double in the coming years, the Iranian side said.

During the years of the long-term cooperation, Turkmenistan and Iran implemented a number of large-scale joint projects. The most important project is the Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas pipeline, commissioned in 1996.

The two countries built a border dam, called Dostluk (Friendship), and realized the 'North-South' railway project, on the basis of a tripartite agreement signed in 2007 with participation of Turkmenistan, Iran and Kazakhstan.
