Turkmenistan increases international freight transportations

The growth rate for the work implemented on the ministry of railway transport reached 105.5 percent compared to 2014 in Turkmenistan in January-February 2015, the State Committee on Statistics of the country said March 10.

This indicator amounted to 100.1 percent in the cargo shipment sector, 101.3 percent in passenger transportation, said the committee.

The growth rate for the implementation of work and provision of services on the civil service of maritime and river transport amounted to 132.9 percent, ministry of motor transport - 125.2 percent for the reporting period.

Growth rate for rendering of services reached 126.1 percent for January-February on Turkmen Airlines state service. This figure amounted to 108.6 percent and 100.9 percent for freight and passenger transportation.

Turkmenistan land borders with Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and on the Caspian sea with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran. In recent years, regional transport projects have intensified.

In December 2014, a ceremony of launching a new steel main pipeline Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran took place. This corridor is designed to open access to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf for the European and Asian countries. Last year, construction of the railway Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan began. China, Kyrgyzstan and Iran can join it.

With regard to air traffic, the scope of flights is expanding. Turkmen Airlines prepares to launch flights to Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Toronto. Currently, the local airline operates flights to the UK, Germany, UAE, Turkey, India, France and a number of CIS countries.

The State Statistics Committee also said that the pace of work gains momentum for the construction of a railway bridge Turkmenabat-Farap across the Amu Darya, new airports in Ashgabat and Turkmenabat, international sea port in Turkmenbashi city.
