Nine million working citizens have no social guarantees in Turkey

Nine million working people have no social guarantees in Turkey, the Turkish Anadolu news agency reported March 12.

Some 34.97 percent of people working in Turkey do not have social guarantees, including 48.43 percent of working women and 29.29 percent of working men.

The number of unemployed in Turkey totaled 2.85 million as of 2014, the Turkish Statistics Institute said.

The unemployment rate in Turkey was 9.6 percent in 2014.

The unemployment rate among men and women was 9 percent and 11.9 percent respectively during the reporting period.

Turkey's population reached 77,695,904 as of December 1, 2014.

Twenty-one percent, or 5.740 million people of the total number of working citizens in Turkey are employed in agriculture, 27.9 percent - in industry and 51.1 percent - in other spheres of economy.
