The third-tier banks are gaining market share in Kazakhstan, according to a message from the analytical service Ranking.kz.

"The total share of the third-tier banks in terms of assets in Kazakhstan rose to 25 percent versus 23 percent in January 2014," Ranking.kz said March 19.

The analytics service said the third-tier group includes 27 banks, with a share of assets less than 5 percent.

Between January 2014 and January 2015, the aggregate volume of the group's assets rose by 814 billion tenges (185.35 tenges = $1) up to 4.5 trillion tenges, which is 40 percent of the entire annual growth in the sector.

Three banks, the assets of which have more than doubled, became the leaders in the ranking of fast-growing banks of Kazakhstan (in terms of growth rate). Alongside with others, the mentioned group of banks has started the active redistribution of the market, said the message.

Capital Bank, the assets of which have more than tripled (from 21 billion Kazakh tenges in January 2014 to 64 billion tenges), became the most ambitious bank among them.

Moreover, by increasing its loan portfolio by almost five times during the mentioned period, it was the most active bank in the loan market as well.

The message said that the recent developments prove the seriousness of the bank's intention to actively cover the market: the bank opened its branch in Astana in the Q3 of 2014 and has received the status of the principal member of Mastercard most recently.

Next in the ranking is Qazaq Banki, the assets of which grew by 94 billion tenge - up to 145 billion tenge. The bank's share on the market rose to 0.8 percent (versus 0.3 percent in January 2014).

Along with the assets, the deposit portfolio of the bank has also grown significantly - by 3 times - up to 133 billion tenge, the message said.

Bank RBK, which increased its assets by 340 billion tenge - up to 572 billion tenge during the year, took the third place. This allowed the bank to enter the top 10 largest banks of Kazakhstan on the results of January 2015.

The message said that of the largest banks in Kazakhstan, only Tsesnabank (an increase of 139 percent) entered the top 10 fast growing players of the market in terms of annual growth of assets.

Kazakhstan's largest banks with the assets, exceeding two trillion tenge, reduced the total market share from 40 percent to 38 percent in 2014.

Their closest competitors, represented by the second-tier banks, have passed from an active to a temporizing position, without changing their market share, which amounted to 36 percent.

The amount of assets in the Kazakh second-tier banks increased by two trillion tenge - up to 17.9 trillion tenge during the year.

Kazakhstan continues a trend of reducing the share of the largest banks on the market. Their share has decreased by 16 percent for the last five years.
