Uzbekistan works out regional environmental programs for 2015

The State Committee for Nature Protection of Uzbekistan has worked out 14 regional programs for environmental protection, rational use and reproduction of natural and biological resources in 2015, the committee told Trend.

"The regional programs, approved by the government, include about 700 activities to be carried out in addition to the existing general five-year program of action for environmental protection," the committee said.

Special attention in the complex of new regional programs is paid to the assistance in solving national tasks of the country's food security, the committee said.

In particular, the actions are planned to be taken to improve the capacity in the fishing industry of Uzbekistan. The production volume will reach 47,300 metric tons this year.

Hatcheries will be built on the territories near the natural water reservoirs and enterprises for processing fish products will be put into operation in Uzbekistan's provinces. This will allow to create new jobs and meet the population's demand for food products.

It is planned to create two beekeeping farms in each forestland of the country in order to increase honey production.

Moreover, in order to maintain the biodiversity of the medicinal plants in Uzbekistan, small and joint enterprises for gathering and storing seeds and manufacturing export products will be created in the country.

Meanwhile, activities will be carried out for fighting plant pests, protecting ornamental plants in the cities, regional centers, infected or exposed trees in forestlands, nature parks and reserves.

New nurseries will be established in the country's regions on an area of 25-30 hectares for wild animals.

The program includes the development of cooperation with international financial institutions for the environmental protection.

Aside from that, it is envisaged as part of the program to attract grants and loans worth $250 million for realization of 110 projects, which involve the re-equipment of enterprises, including the gin houses in accordance with the set environmental requirements and norms.

A particular emphasis will be placed upon the strengthening of the state environmental control, under which, it is planned to carry out stocktaking of over 160,000 enterprises and organizations that have an impact on the environment.

The enterprises that pollute the nature sites will have to make compensation payments, and undergo the environmental regulation and certification in the prescribed manner.
