The new head of the board of Azerbaijani International Bank is expected to the appointed on Apr.2.

The appointment to this post will be announced during the General Shareholders' meeting of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, an informed source told Trend.

At least three people are considered for this post, however, the selection is made by the shareholders.

Meanwhile, some media outlets reported that Pasha Bank chairman of the board Farid Akhundov will be appointed to the mentioned post, while the executive director of UniBank Jalal Gasimov will take over Akhundov's position.

UniBank has confirmed to Trend that Gasimov has left his position for another job, without specifying Gasimov's new post. Currently, his duties are handled by Khalid Ahadov, deputy executive director and director of retail banking of UniBank.

The position of the head of Azerbaijan's largest bank has been vacant since March 18, 2015 after Jahangir Hajiyev resigned from this post for heath reasons. Hajiyev has held the post of the chairman since March 2001. The duties of the board chairman of the bank are handled by the First Deputy Chairman Emil Mustafayev.

During the meeting of the Supervisory Board held on March 18, the Ministry of Finance which represents the Azerbaijani government in the International Bank of Azerbaijan, expressed readiness to fully support the bank's development in the future as well.

The International Bank of Azerbaijan was founded in January 1992.

Azerbaijani government is the main shareholder of the bank with 50.2-percent share, while the remaining 49.8-percent share is owned by individuals and legal entities.
