Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Natig Aliyev, the Turkmen government said on May 2.

The two sides discussed the prospects of expanding the partnership in the strategic fuel-energy sector. They also discussed expansion through the implementation of new joint projects for laying transit gas pipelines, in particular, for natural gas supplies from the Caspian region to Europe.

It is also reported that the existing mutual interest is stipulated by different countries' increasing demand for energy and the position of Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan is confidently implementing a strategy to create a multiple system of supplying its energy resources to the new and promising markets.

"The progress and well-being of one country can not be considered beyond the general situation in the region, on the continent and in the world," President Berdimuhamedov said.

President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's great interest in further intensifying of an inter-state dialogue, built on a long-term and mutually beneficial basis.

"As it is known, while strengthening a constructive dialogue on a bilateral and multilateral basis from year to year, the two neighboring countries consolidate their efforts in searching for solutions to the current pressing problems," the statement said. "The sides paid special attention to the strengthening of global security, including energy security."

President Berdimuhamedov spoke about the long-term programs of developing the key areas of the national economy and the large-scale projects being implemented for the exploration and commercial development of the world's largest gas fields.

President Berdimuhamedov said that their successful implementation is intended to be an additional guarantee of Turkmenistan's compliance with all commitments.

The Azerbaijani minister expressed confidence that Turkmenistan's course of diversifying the gas export routes and creating the necessary conditions for the safe and reliable transit of energy resources to the world markets, including the Eurasian continent, will directly contribute to solving the problem with global energy security.

In conclusion, the sides stressed that the two countries, having neighborly relations, historical and cultural roots, common traditions, intend to closely cooperate in the exploration of offshore oil and gas fields.

Two Caspian countries are interested in laying the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, which can become a part of the infrastructure of the Southern Gas Corridor.
