Turkmenistan increases freight transportation

The volumes of freight transportation by all types of transport increased in Turkmenistan in January-April 2015, the Turkmen State Statistics Committee said.

Freight transportation increased by 39.6 percent during the reporting period, according to the Ministry of Motor Transport of Turkmenistan.

In January-April 2015, transportations via the state national transportation service Turkmen airlines in total rose by 20.4 percent. The growth in cargo transportation amounted to 6.6 percent. The volume of passenger traffic has not changed.

Services of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan grew by 30 percent.

Turkmenistan shares land borders with Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, as well as Afghanistan and on the Caspian Sea with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran. In recent years, regional transport projects have intensified.

A ceremony of launching a new steel main pipeline Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran took place in December 2014.

Last year, construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway began. China, Kyrgyzstan and Iran can join it.
