By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

At present, the construction of the East-West pipeline, which will unite the main gas fields of Turkmenistan into a single gas transportation system and significantly increase the export potential of the country, is being completed, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said during his official visit to Vienna May 11-13, the message of the government of Turkmenistan reported May 13.

"The construction of this pipeline, which is capable in the long term, if necessary, to transport large volumes of Turkmen energy resources in the right direction, will provide additional guarantees for their reliable and stable export," said the president.

The Turkmen leader also said that in addition to the existing onshore fields, the country has sufficient energy reserves in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as to ensure European projects.

It was reported in late March that Turkmenistan is testing the East-West export gas pipeline.

The new regional gas pipeline is being laid from Shatlyk to Belek. It is designed to transport natural fuel from the largest fields in the eastern regions to the country's other gas pipelines, to increase the volumes, to improve the reliability of the gas supplies for export, as well as for the domestic gas supply.

The further 773-kilometer-gas transmission system has a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Turkmenistan's largest field Galkynysh will be the main source of raw materials for the East-West gas pipeline.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players on the gas market in the Caspian region and Central Asia.

It should be stressed that the East-West gas pipeline can be used to supply Turkmen gas to Europe. Laying of a 300-kilomter-gas pipeline across the Caspian Sea to the coast of Azerbaijan would be the most optimal route. This gas pipeline can play a role of transiting Turkmen gas to Turkey and further to the European sales markets.
