Iran said transit up by 177%

An Iranian official says the country's transit grew by 117 percent.

Maritime transit grew by 117 percent, railroad transit by 61, and road transit by 3 percent, government spokesman and Head of the Management and Planning Organization Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said, Fars news agency reported July 3.

Also, the number of flights carried through the Iranian airspace has grown by 53 percent, he said.

Some 35 million metric tons of goods were transited via the country's rail network in the past year, a 6.8 percent rise year on year, the Deputy Managing Director of Iranian Railway Hossein Ashouri told June 26.

Iran is in talks with six countries for resolving executive problems and removing concerns about rail transit via Iran, he said.
