Passenger transportation through TRACECA’s Azerbaijani segment increases

The number of passengers transported via the Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through Azerbaijan's territory in Jan.-May 2015 stood at 134.8 million, or 7.9 percent more than in the same period of 2014, Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee said in its report on H1 of 2015.

The report said that 22.2 million metric tons of cargo was transported via the corridor in Jan.-May, compared to 23.4 million metric tons in the same period of 2014.

Of the total volume of cargo transportation, 55.6 percent accounted for road transport, 31 percent - railway and 13.4 percent - maritime transport, according to the report.

The revenues from cargo transportation via the corridor totaled 218.7 million Azerbaijani manats during the reporting period, or 8 percent more than in Jan.-May 2014.

The official exchange rate on July 18 is 1.0495 AZN/USD.

The revenues from passenger transportation stood at 50.1 million manats in Jan.-May, or 14.6 percent more than in the same period of 2014.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
