Kazakhstan increases uranium production

Kazakhstan in the second quarter of 2015 produced 5,883 metric tons of uranium, which corresponds to the planned targets

Kazakhstan in the second quarter of 2015 produced 5,883 metric tons of uranium, which corresponds to the planned targets, said the message of the Kazakhstan National Atomic Company "Kazatomprom."

The company said that in the same period last year, Kazakhstan produced 5,650 metric tons of uranium.

The volume of uranium production by the mining company "Kazatomprom" (including interests in subsidiaries and affiliates) in April-June 2015 amounted to 3,177 metric tons. For the same period in 2014, the company "Kazatomprom" has produced 3,278 metric tons of uranium.

"Ulba Metallurgical Plant" in the second quarter of 2015 produced 414.76 metric tons of beryllium, 40.12 metric tons of tantalum and 14.75 metric tons of niobium products, the message said.

MAEK-Kazatomprom LLP generated more than 1.134 billion kWh of electricity, 765,000 Gcal of heat energy, 285.7 million cubic meters of water, including 2.88 million cubic meters of drinking water for consumers of Aktau city and Mangistau region in the second quarter of 2015.

The Center of uranium enrichment JSC implemented shipment of finished products in the amount of over 1.621 million separative work units.

SARECO joint venture produced 1.4 metric tons of bulk concentrate of rare earth metals in April-June 2015.

Kazatomprom JSC is the national operator of Kazakhstan for the export of uranium and uranium compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and materials with dual purposes.

Its main activities are geological exploration, the extraction of uranium, the manufacturing of products involved in the nuclear fuel cycle and construction materials as well as power industry, science, social security and personnel training.
