By Elmir Murad - Trend:

All possible environmental aspects will be taken into account while laying the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, Mirsalam Gambarov, the head of the department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, told Trend August 19.

"Any project involving Azerbaijan is implemented in accordance with the environmental protection requirements of the international organizations," he said. "Each project, including the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, passes the state examination."

The Trans-Caspian pipeline project is considered to be the best option for supplying Turkmen gas to the European market. The pipeline is to be laid through the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the coast of Azerbaijan. The gas can be further transported through Georgia to Turkey, which shares a border with the European countries.

"Until now, all factors negatively affecting the ecology were prevented at a high level during the implementation of other projects," he said.

Laying of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline is absolutely safe in case of fulfilling all necessary technical procedures, Telman Zeynalov, the head of the Azerbaijani National Ecological Forecasting Center, told Trend earlier.

The Trans-Caspian Pipeline project may be implemented as a part of the Southern Gas Corridor project designed to transport gas from the Caspian Sea region, in particular Azerbaijani gas, to European countries.
