Kazakhstan’s large oil refinery advances on construction of new units (exclusive)

It is planned to complete a series of works on the construction of new units at the Pavlodar petrochemical plant in Kazakhstan until the end of 2015, the KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing JSC, which is a shareholder of the plant, told Trend.

"Until the end of 2015, it is planned to complete the arrangement of foundations for installation of isomerization and the block of units for sulfur recovery, carry out installation of large columns of the isomerization unit," the company said.

Work on the installation of new facilities at the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant is implemented within the framework of the project on its modernization.

KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing JSC said that regarding the isomerization unit for Pavlodar refinery, orders for production of equipment with long manufacturing period have been fully placed and delivery of equipment started.

In addition, work on the foundation arrangement and installation of piping and equipment continues within the framework of the modernization project of the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant.

Implementation of the project on modernization of the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant started in 2011 and should be completed in 2016according to the plan, the KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing JSC reported. The total cost of the modernization project is $696 million, according to the company.

The website of the Pavlodar Plant said that the project implementation for the modernization will increase the productivity of the plant on processing crude oil from the current 5 million tons to 7 million tons a year. Also, as a result of modernization, the quality of products will be improved to meet the requirements of the environmental classes K4 and K5 (K4, K5 are analogous to the European standards Euro-4 and Euro-5 approved by the countries of the Customs Union).

Energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies will be introduced within the framework of the modernization. Further modernization of the plant will allow processing Kazakh oil on it, and not only Russian West Siberian oil for which it was originally designed.

Kazakhstan has three major oil refineries - Atyrau, Shymkent and Pavlodar.
