The electricity generation in Turkmenistan has increased by 2.5 percent as of Jan.-Sept. 2015, said the message from the country's Ministry of Economy and Development.
The volume of electricity annually exported from Turkmenistan to the neighboring countries exceeds 2.8 billion kilowatt hours, or almost 15 percent of the total volume of produced electricity.
Currently, work is underway to increase the electricity export towards Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. Moreover, the country studies the possibility of exporting it to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Caucasus countries.
It is planned to construct 14 gas turbine power plants in various provinces in accordance with the concept for development of Turkmenistan's power industry for 2013-2020.
Turkmenistan plans to produce up to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity by 2020 and bring its volume to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours by 2030.
