Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) faces hard times from an economic point of view, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said, RIA Novosti reported.

The meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS member-states took place in Kazakhstan Oct. 16.

"Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CIS is under completion," he said. "Frankly speaking, we are facing hard times from an economic point of view, but we have tried to fulfill this mission."

He said that Astana would host the tenth anniversary forum of creative scientific intelligentsia of the CIS countries.

A meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council will be held in Dushanbe.

"We are completing our chairmanship by these activities," the president said.

"I would like to thank all our partners for understanding, support for our chairmanship in the CIS," President Nazarbayev said.
