No plans to increase electricity tariffs in Azerbaijan, says minister

Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct.20

By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

The issue of increasing electricity tariffs is not considered in Azerbaijan and it is not on the agenda, the country's Energy Minister Natig Aliyev told reporters Oct.20.

"All the talks about changing the electricity tariffs in Azerbaijan are rumors," said Aliyev, adding that neither the Energy Ministry, nor the Tariff Council have reviewed this issue.

Possibly, someone just tries to benefit from these rumors on the eve of the [parliamentary] election, according to the energy minister.

The main producer of electricity in Azerbaijan is Azerenerji JSC. Currently, the wholesale price of electricity in the country is 0.041 Azerbaijani manats per kilowatt hours (official exchange rate on Oct.20 is 1.0476 AZN/USD).
