Uzbekistan offers to develop 540 mineral deposits

The State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan has offered foreign investors to develop 540 hard mineral deposits, the Uzbek State Geology Committee Deputy Chairman Aslan Mavlonov said during the international conference "Investment potential of hard minerals of Uzbekistan" held in Tashkent.

In particular, 462 deposits of building materials, 37 deposits of mining raw materials, 30 deposits of semi precious raw materials and 11 deposits of mining and chemical raw materials are proposed for the development.

"Currently, more than 200 proposals to conduct exploration work within investment blocks and promising areas have been prepared, and the investors are offered 38 areas where there is a prospect of discovering deposits of uranium, tungsten, lithium and other rare metals on the terms of production sharing agreements, creation of joint ventures," said Mavlonov.

In particular, 44 promising projects on the organization of production on the basis of deep processing of raw materials have been prepared in free economic zones of Uzbekistan.

Non-traditional investment direction, geotourism, which is an intensively developing sphere of the global tourism industry, has been introduced within the framework of the conference, more than 100 territories have been identified, which can claim for the status of geological monuments as well as the organization of geoparks.

The Uzbek State Geology Committee said that 1,838 fields were opened in Uzbekistan as of early 2015.
