The tariffs for rail and maritime transportation in Azerbaijan will depend on the goods, including their categories, Abid Sharifov, the Azerbaijani Vice Prime Minister, told reporters in Baku Oct. 23.

Sharifov made this statement as part of a meeting of the 35th session of the Interstate Council on Aviation and Airspace Use.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the establishment of the Azerbaijani Coordinating Council on Transit Cargo Oct. 21.

According to the decree, the statute of the Azerbaijani Coordinating Council on Transit Cargo and the staff must be approved. A "single window" principle must be used while transporting the transit goods through the territory of Azerbaijan by railways, ships, marine ports and terminals.

The authority is transferred to the Azerbaijani Coordinating Council on Transit Cargo to control using the single window principle while transporting transit goods through the territory of Azerbaijan by railways, ships, marine ports and terminals.

The decree stipulates that the current activity of the Azerbaijani Coordinating Council on Transit Cargo is organized by the Secretariat of the Tariff Council of the country.

He said that a single freight transportation tariff is out of the question as the transportation of the certain cargo, depending on the category, must have its own tariff.

"Someone can carry 5-10 million tons, others - 50 tons, of course, there must be difference between their tariffs," he said.

Sharifov said that the introduction of the single window principle on cargo transportation would significantly simplify the work in this area.

"Previously, cargo shippers were to apply to several departments for marine or rail freight," he said. "At present, the single window principle will be applied. This is a very important issue for our clients, carrying goods through the territory of Azerbaijan. People's work will be simplified."

He said that the volume of cargo transportation through Azerbaijan has declined for the last two years and the establishment of the Coordinating Council will allow them to increase.
"The volume of cargo transportation through Azerbaijan always grew," he said.

"But we have seen their decline for the last two years. Of course, there are both objective and subjective reasons, because not everything depends on our transportation services. The Coordination Council was established to increase the volume of cargo transportation through Azerbaijan. I think it will be very useful for transport workers and the state budget."
