Uzbek President Islam Karimov received US Secretary of State John Kerry Nov. 1, the Uzbek national news agency (UzA) reported.

While welcoming the guest, President Karimov said that Kerry's first visit to Uzbekistan gives a good opportunity to exchange the views on a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and international problems.

The sides exchanged the views on current regional issues focusing on security in Afghanistan.

Kerry thanked President Karimov for the warm reception and confirmed the readiness of the US leadership for the progressive development of relations based on the mutual interests of both sides.

It was earlier reported that during his first visit to Central Asia, Kerry will hold bilateral talks with senior representatives of the governments of these countries.

Kerry will participate in a joint meeting with the foreign ministers of five countries in Samarkand. This meeting is a new form of a dialogue among the US and the Central Asian countries, known as "C5 + 1". It will allow the US Secretary of State and foreign ministers of these countries to discuss opportunities and challenges at the regional and global levels.
