Azerbaijan increases cargo, passenger transportation in 2015

Around 222.4 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in 2015 or 0.2 percent more than in 2014, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of 2015 said.

The volume of non-oil cargo transportation increased by 1.6 percent in 2015 and hit 161.6 million tons, according to the committee.

Around 80.3 percent of the total volume of cargo transported during this period accounted for the private sector.

Some 61.9 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 27.4 percent by pipelines, 7.7 percent by trains, three percent by ships.

Passenger vehicles in 2015 transported 1.892 billion people which is 3.5 percent more than in 2014. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (88.1 percent) and metro (11.7 percent).
Some 17.1 million tons of cargo were transported by railway in 2015 compared to 21.8 million tons in 2014.

On average, the number of loaded carriages made up 374 and unloaded - 446. Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction is 15,300 tons and in western direction 4,200 tons and southern direction - 1,800 tons.

Ships transported 6.6 million tons of cargo during this period compared to 9.9 million tons in 2014. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports during this period amounted to 8.55 million metric tons.

Vehicles transported 137.6 million tons of cargo, which is seven percent more than in 2014.

The volume of passenger transportation hit 1.666 billion people (3.6 percent growth compared to 2014). Some 96.2 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.8 percent - by cars.

Some 222 million people were transported by the subway, which is three percent more compared to 2014.

Some 1.8 million passengers were transported by planes, which is 1.8 percent more than in 2014. Around 0.5 percent of transportation by this type of transport fell to the private sector.
