Iran’s crude steel output hits 12.6 million tons

Over 12.642 million tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first nine months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 21, 2015).

The figure remains almost unchanged compared to 12.633 million tons of output during the same period of preceding year, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said Jan. 24.

A major raw steel producer of Iran, Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 3.878 million tons of crude steel during the period, followed by the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 2.572 million tons, the Isfahan Foundry with 1.781 million tons, Hormozgan Steel Company (894,375 tons), Saba Steel Company (520,011 tons) and Khorasan Steel Company (498,994 tons).

Iranian companies also produced 11.184 million tons of steel products during the 9-month period. The figure indicates a 14 percent fall compared to the same months of last year.

Iranian companies produced 1.355 million tons of crude steel during the ninth calendar month of Azar (Nov. 21-Dec. 21, 2015).

The country's steel products output during the same month stood at 1.234 million tons.

The World Steel Association reported that about 14.835 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran in the first 11 months of 2015, 0.9 percent less year-on-year.

Iran was the world's 14th biggest producer of steel in the 11-month period. The country also stood at the first place among the Middle East countries.

The Islamic Republic produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.
