Italian PM to visit Iran, says Rouhani

Iranian president has said that Italian prime minister will visit Tehran.

"Italian PM Matteo Renzi will travel to Iran in the coming months to boost economic ties," President Hassan Rouhani, who is currently in Vatican, has twitted.

The Iranian president arrived in Rome on Jan. 25 on the first leg of his trip to three European destinations including Italy, Vatican and France.

Rouhani left Tehran at the head of a high-ranking delegation, which includes government officials, Iranian entrepreneurs and businessmen.

Iran and Italy have already signed multi-billion dollar contracts covering various sectors including healthcare, transportation, agriculture and energy.

The contracts, worth up to 17 billion euros ($18.4 billion), were signed in a ceremony attended by Rouhani and his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Jan. 25.
