Iran and Russia agreed on construction of a 1400-MW power plant on Iran's territory, said the country's Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian.
Chitchian said the initial agreement was achieved between Tehran and Moscow on construction of the steam-electric power station in Hormozgan province, and negotiations over signing a contract are on the way, Mehr News Agency reported on Feb.5.
Iran has planned to increase the efficiency thermal power plants from the current 37 percent to 40 percent by adding a steam-electric power generator that would convert the facilities to combined-cycle power plants.
Currently only 25 percent of the country's electricity is produced from combined-cycle power plants.
Iran's power production capacity stands at 73,758 MW, while during 315 days of current fiscal year, Iran produced 248 billion kWh of electricity.
