Azerbaijan increases passenger transportation in Jan.

Around 137.6 million passengers were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in January 2016 or 1 percent more than in the same period of 2015, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of January said.

Some 16.4 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector or 4.9 percent less than in January 2015.

The volume of non-oil cargo transportation decreased by 1.7 percent in January and hit 11.6 million tons.

Around 78.1 percent of the total volume of cargo transported during this period accounted for the private sector.

Some 57 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 31.7 percent by pipelines, 8.7 percent by trains and 2.6 percent by ships.

Passenger vehicles transported 137.6 million people in January which is 1 percent more than in the same period of 2015. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (87.6 percent) and metro (12.2 percent).

Some 1.4 million tons of cargo were transported by railway in January compared to 1.7 million tons in January 2015.

On average, the number of loaded carriages made up 342 and unloaded - 331. Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction is 15,000 tons and in western direction 3,600 tons and southern direction - 0,900 tons.

Ships transported 0.42 million tons of cargo during this period compared to 0.8 million tons in January 2015. Some 38.6 percent of transported cargo accounted for oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports during this period amounted to 639,000 tons.

Vehicles transported 9.3 million tons of cargo, which is 2.8 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

The volume of passenger transportation hit 120.6 million people (2.5 percent growth compared to January 2015). Some 96.5 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.5 percent - by cars.

Some 16.8 million people were transported by the subway, which is 8.2 percent less compared to the same period of 2015.

Some 114,600 passengers were transported by planes, which is 11 percent less than in January 2015. Around 0.1 percent of transportation by this type of transport accounted for the private sector.
