Azerbaijan increases agricultural production

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan increased by 2.7 percent in January-March 2016 and stood at 643.6 million manats in actual prices as compared to the same period in 2015, said the report issued by the country's State Statistical Committee.

During the reporting period, the livestock and crop production increased by 2.5 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively, according to the report.

The country produced 111,800 tons of meat in live weight, 440,900 tons of milk and 407 million eggs during the reporting period. The meat production has increased by 1.8 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015, milk - 3.2 percent and egg - 4.3 percent.

Moreover, 120,000 hectares of areas have been sown as of Apr.1, 2016, or 2.7 percent more than in the same period in 2015.

The report said that 8,500 hectares of grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize), 1,900 hectares of maize, 28,000 hectares of potatoes, 25,400 hectares of vegetables, 4,800 hectares of melon, 3,600 hectares of sugar beet, 1,300 hectares of sunflower, 1,200 hectares of cotton and 45,000 hectares of perennial grasses have been sown since the beginning of the season.

Moreover, 15,100 tons of vegetables were produced in the first quarter of 2016, or 16 percent more than in the same period in 2015, according to the report.
