Industrial production volumes decrease in Kazakhstan

Industrial production volumes decreased by 0.8 percent in Kazakhstan in January-March 2016 to 4.06 trillion tenges compared to the corresponding period in 2015 (327.66 tenge = $1)

Industrial production volumes decreased by 0.8 percent in Kazakhstan in January-March 2016 to 4.06 trillion tenges compared to the corresponding period in 2015 (327.66 tenge = $1), according to a review of the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
The decline in industrial production volumes is due to a decline in production volumes in the mining industry.

In the first quarter of 2016, production volumes of the mining industry decreased by 1.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015. During the reporting period, oil production decreased by 1.3 percent, coal and lignite production volumes fell by 8.5 percent, as well as manufacture of iron ore decreased by 28.7 percent. Volumes of natural gas increased by 7.2 percent and non-ferrous metals - by 10 percent.

Oil, the share of which amounted to 38 percent in January-March 2016, makes the most part of industrial production.

At the same time, production growth in the manufacturing industry continued. Thus, in January-March 2016, production in manufacturing industry increased by 0.3 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015. In January-March 2015, the growth accounted to 0.5 percent.

The volume of production in metallurgical industry in the reporting period increased by 7.5 percent (the share from the volume of refining industry in January-March 2016 amounted to 44.7 percent), and the increase in the production of basic precious and non-ferrous metals amounted to 11.6 percent.

The volume of construction work in January-March 2016 increased by six percent to 287.2 billion tenges compared to the corresponding period in 2015. The volume of construction and installation work increased by 12.2 percent. The volume of construction work on the overhaul and current repair in comparison with the corresponding period last year decreased by 44.8 percent and 49.9 percent, respectively.

Production in agriculture in January-March 2016 increased by 2.9 percent to 317.8 billion tenges compared with the corresponding period in 2015, and the volume of livestock production increased by three percent, while the volume of crop production remained unchanged.
