Copper ore production grows in Kazakhstan

The copper ore production in Kazakhstan has doubled in January-April 2016 and stood at 21.8 million tons as compared to the same period in 2015, the country's Energyprom.kz analytical service said.

The refined and unwrought unalloyed copper production in Kazakhstan has increased by almost 1.5 times and reached 130,900 tons in January-April 2016.

The production of copper concentrate in the country rose by 2.9 percent and stood at 3.3 million tons.

The copper production from copper concentrate stood at 146,200 tons in the first four months of 2016, or 3.9 percent less than in the same period in 2015. This is while, the copper-zinc ore production stood at 1.6 million tons during the reporting period, as compared to 2.3 million tons in January-April 2015.

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Investments and Development expects the export of Kazakh copper to significantly increase.

It is planned to implement 18 investment projects totaling $6 billion in this sector.
