UN Resident Coordinator Ghulam Isaczai says $70 million will be allocated for the implementation of “The United Nations-Azerbaijan Partnership Framework 2016-2020.”

Isaczai said the funds will be provided by the UN, the EU, Azerbaijani government, various trust funds and other donors.

Azerbaijan and the United Nations signed a Partnership Framework for 2016-2020 on July 12 in Baku. The document was signed by Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev and UN Resident Coordinator Ghulam Isaczai.

“Under the agreement, we, in particular, plan to focus on creating new jobs, the development of healthcare, education, improving the productivity of the agricultural sector, environmental protection, mitigating the risk of natural disasters and others,” he added.

Isaczai also noted that Azerbaijan has achieved great progress both in economic and social spheres, and there is also the UN’s merit.

“Despite the great progress, we believe that the UN can still contribute to a number of areas, such as the gender equality, the equal distribution of income among citizens and others,” he added.

The United Nations-Azerbaijan Partnership Framework for 2016-2020 covers three directions: the promotion of sustainable and inclusive economic development, which also includes support for economic diversification and decent labor; strengthening the institutional capacity and effective public and social services; modernization of environmental management, the support to increase resilience against risks and natural disasters.

Special attention in the framework program was given to the expansion of e-services, the creation of industrial zones and areas, the development of agriculture, tourism, the growth of the youth’s role in society, gender equality and others.
