Taiwan increases trade turnover with Azerbaijan by almost 40 times

Taiwan entered the list of Azerbaijan’s main trade partners in June 2016 and took the sixth position, said Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee in a report.

Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with Taiwan amounted to $307.36 million in H1 2016 that is by 37.5 times more than in January-June 2015, says the report.

Almost the entire trade turnover amount ($301.3 million) with Taiwan accounted for the export to this country, according to the report. The country entered the list of main importers from Azerbaijan in February 2016, took the 15th position and continued to further increase the import of Azerbaijani goods. The report does not specify what goods are being supplied to Taiwan.

Italy keeps its first position as a leader on imports from Azerbaijan and as the country’s main foreign trade partner. Trade turnover between Italy and Azerbaijan reached $941.4 million in January-June 2016 that accounted for 11.96 percent of the total volume of the country’s trade operations.

Russia with $934.45 million (11.88 percent), Turkey - $685.7 million (8.71 percent), Germany - $503.84 million (6.4 percent) and France - $418.46 million (5.32 percent) are following Italy.

The share of these countries in Azerbaijan’s total trade turnover is 44.27 percent.

Italy also took the lion’s share in Azerbaijan’s total export volume in H1 2016. Goods worth $760.85 million were exported to Italy during the reporting period that accounted for 19.91 percent of the total volume of Azerbaijan’s export.

Meanwhile, France with $344.7 million (a specific weight of 9.02 percent), Germany - $332.27 million (8.69 percent), Taiwan - $301.29 million (7.88 percent) and Israel - $236.7 million (6.19 percent) are also holding leading positions.

These countries’ share in Azerbaijan’s total export volume is 51.69 percent.

In January-June 2016, Russia led the top five of the countries with import volume of $742.75 million – 18.35 percent of Azerbaijan’s total import volume.

Turkey - $526.8 million (13.02 percent), China - $257.9 million (6.37 percent), the United Kingdom - $253.86 million (6.27 percent) and the US - $245.18 million (6.06 percent) are following Russia.

The specific weight of these countries in Azerbaijan’s total import volume is 50.07 percent.

The report says that Azerbaijan’s foreign trade operations decreased by 28 percent and totaled $7.87 billion in H1 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported goods worth $3.8 billion (decrease by 38.67 percent during the year) and imported goods worth $4.05 billion (decrease by 13.98 percent during the year).
