Georgia reduces import of Azerbaijani goods

Georgia imported goods worth $223.56 million from Azerbaijan in H1 2016, which is 19.26 percent less than in January-June 2015.

Georgia imported goods worth $223.56 million from Azerbaijan in H1 2016, which is 19.26 percent less than in January-June 2015, said Georgia’s National Statistics Office (Geostat) in a report July 20.

Azerbaijan ranks sixth, with a specific weight of 4.7 percent, in terms of volume of supplied products to Georgia.

In H1 2016, Georgia imported the biggest part of the goods from Canada ($1.26 billion – 26.6 percent).

Turkey ranked the second with $672.4 million (14.1 percent), followed by Russia - $308.1 million (6.5 percent).

Medicines worth $1.6 billion, oil and oil products worth $243 million, as well as motor cars worth $219 million were the main products imported by Georgia in H1 2016.

Azerbaijan exports gas, oil products, construction materials and other commodities to Georgia.

In total, Georgia imported goods worth almost $4.8 billion in January-June 2016 versus $3.66 billion in the same period of 2015.

Georgia imports a quarter of products from EU countries, 18 percent from the CIS countries, while 57 percent of Georgian import accounts for other countries.
