Azeravtoyol OJSC (Azerbaijan’s state owned road operator) has prepared an environmental monitoring report covering the 1H of 2016 for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as part of ADB’s Road Network Development Program for the country.

The report was published on ADB’s website Aug. 3.

The document includes the results of environmental monitoring as part of the ADB-funded construction of 62-kilometer stretch of M-3 Masalli-Astara highway.

Japan’s Nippon Koei UK Co. Ltd. is the construction’s designer.

The report says that the construction contractors have not yet been appointed at the time of the document’s preparation; therefore, no work was carried out, which could adversely affect the environment.

ADB has already completed the funding within two investment programs for reconstruction of roads in Azerbaijan. The first multi-tranche package worth $500 million was approved in 2007. These funds were directed for the construction of Masalli-Astara highway, as well as for the reconstruction and expanding of the Ganja bypass road. The second multi-tranche package was approved in November 2012 in the amount of $500 million. The program envisaged the construction of Masalli-Shorsulu highway.

ADB, based in Manila, was established in 1966 and is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration.

Azerbaijan became the ADB member on Dec. 22, 1999.
