Cargo traffic through TRACECA’s Azerbaijani sector decreases

About 23.88 million tons of cargos were transported via the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) through Azerbaijan’s territory in 1H 2016 that is by 9 percent less than in the same period 2015, said Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

Meanwhile, 164.6 million passengers were transported via the TRACECA during the reporting period that is by 2.2 percent more than in 1H 2015.

Some 63.6 percent (15.18 million tons) of the total volume of the transported cargos accounted for motor traffic, 27.1 percent (6.47 million tons) – for railway, 9.3 percent (2.32 million tons) – for maritime transport, said the committee.

Moreover, transit traffic accounted for 14.9 percent (3.57 million tons) of cargoes.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the sphere of transport among the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
