Bulgaria, Azerbaijan keen to extend co-op in agriculture

Bulgaria proposes to create a Bulgarian-Azerbaijani working group on cooperation in agricultural sphere and to hold its first session in the second half of 2017 in Azerbaijan, reads the protocol of the 4th session of the Azerbaijani-Bulgarian joint commission on trade and economic, scientific and technical cooperation that was held Sept. 29 in Baku.

Azerbaijan and Bulgaria agreed to swap genetic materials of various agricultural crops (vegetables, fruits, grapes, grain, fodder crops and others) and to realize scientific cooperation in areas of mutual testing of new varieties, says the protocol.

Moreover, the sides agreed to exchange experience and information in the sphere of safety and quality of food, genetically modified organisms (GMO), veterinary, phytosanitary activities, as well as to exchange information between the two countries’ competent organizations in the field of breeding and reproduction of cattle and poultry industry.

It is also planned to start cooperation between Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking and Bulgaria’s Executive Agency for Vines and Wine, according to the protocol.

The Bulgarian side proposed Azerbaijan to get acquainted with the best practices in the field of the official wine quality control using modern methods of laboratory analysis and improvement of the regulatory framework governing the activities in the field of viticulture and winemaking, says the document.
