Azersun Holding Group of Companies plans to bring the share of Azerbaijani raw materials in production at its enterprises to 40-50 percent this year, said Abdolbari Goozal, chairman of the holding’s supervisory board.

Goozal made the remarks Oct. 7 at a meeting of the agriculture development commission of the Azerbaijan Entrepreneurs’ Confederation.

He also said currently the share of local raw materials in the holding’s production is about 30 percent.

Raw materials for some kinds of the holding’s products come from abroad, he said.

In particular, the holding gets 85 percent of the raw materials needed for sugar production from other countries, he added. In order to produce sugar using only local raw materials, Azersun needs about $130 million, Goozal said.

He added that the cost of sugar production plant is $300 million.

Goozal noted that the holding has requested support from Azerbaijan’s government to fully switch to local production.

This year, at the holding’s own expense, Azersun will be able to increase the share of local raw materials in production to 40-50 percent, said the head of Azersun Holding.

He added that there are products manufactured by the holding with the use of only local raw materials, such as salt.
